SUNSHINE ON THE POND
(Thanks to my friend Sean for the idea for this poem and the inspiration!)
Glittering across the horizon,
blinding and beautiful,
I squint to keep my
eyes from tearing
imagination takes flight
in the moment
and I am dancing
in the sunlight,
wearing
that same
sequined dress...
the orchestra plays on and on,
violins caressing my ears
with rhapsody, notes
sparkling like
diamonds on
the air
You, holding me,
your arm across my back,
my hand enrobed in yours...
rhythmically we move, turn
in time to the melody
of the day, slowing,
staring into each
others' souls
until the
music is
no more
Warmth from deep within
flows between us and...
I open my eyes
just in time
to watch
the last
glimmers
as the sun sets
into the water
with one bright wink,
the day
is done
and you are gone...
like the sunshine
on the pond
