What say you,
Silent night,
When I come
To you
For solace?
The wind blows
Whispering
Sweet nothings
That I can
Barely make out
But is forever
Lost on me.
The Moon is full
To some other
Part of the world
But it is dark here
And the milky way
Splashes in a line
Across the sky
Like the goddess
Of night kicked over
A bucket of milk
Leaving the
Stain there
In the heavens.
Animals make noises
Just beyond
My night sight
Close
But never too close
To touch
Or be touched,
They seem to want
As little to do
With me
As I them.
And what of
My tender heart
Aching for Solace
In your dark
Embrace?
I could lay down
In the underbrush
And let the cold
Take me,
But that
Would be
No comfort,
Nor comfortable.
Then I see it
Your warm heart
The gentle orange glow
Down in the belly
Of the earth
A cave
With fire.
And I see her,
The love in her eyes
As warm as the
Flames she made
To meet me.
Wool blankets await
Me and her arms
To consume
Me with her
Love
And fire's warmth.
Thank you
Dark night
For the gift
On the other side
Of the hill
My love
Waiting for me.
