 Tune Of Life

Please help me catch the tune that's loose upon the air
Existing only in bits and pieces I cannot comprehend
Sometimes it sweeps me away, sometimes it isn't there
It is so poignant, so wistful, as it floats upon the wind....

Freezing in wintertime or breathing in the life of spring
It is always the perfect sound for any and all events
I try to catch it when I can for the melancholy it brings
Melody so sublime, but the words never make any sense....

Lost amidst a thousand bits of fragments I once knew
Tiny tinkling treasure I only hear in notes momentary
I'm afraid I allowed too much nonsense in my head to accrue
Poignant pains and pangs, a heavy load I am forced to carry....

Music hath charm to soothe the savage breast(that IS the word)
Go find the poem in which the statement was originally made.
If only I could go back to the moment when I first heard
The elusive tune and the event when in my mind it played....

It is only the tiniest fragment of a tune from long ago
I no longer know the circumstance or know the reason why
It affects me like it does but it does affect me so...
Most likely I will remember it up until the day I die....
