 A Pointless Piece Of Poetry

There was a time in the early days, riding high on the laughter of life...
Hello California, hello San Francisco, going to listen to Hendrix play
Watch him kiss the sky, yes everyone was high and sharp as a knife
They say that love was in the air, didn't find any there so I didn't stay...

*

I went the other way, down into Mexico, bullfights, tequila and rum
It was a laid-back place, no one in your face, lazy in the noonday sun
I had always heard of the hispanic ambience, wanted to get me some
Enjoyed every minute of every day, life drove me on and I had to run...

*

On I went to the Texas coast, don't want to boast but Texas has it all
Every possible terrain, eastern forests, western plain, and a sparkling sea
The mountains out west are quite a sight but aren't Rocky Mountain tall
I stayed in Texas, though it wasn't the way things were supposed to be....

*

So many people live in so many great places in this country of ours
Wish I could live in every city in every state, at least for a little while
Roll along a Texas highway in the Spring, miles of bluebonnet flowers
But some of the other states take your breath away in their own style...

*

I fear at times that some people have stuffed me too full of myself.
They have allowed me to think I am 'somebody', I just don't know who.
But I do know one thing, after putting my traveling clothes on the shelf
I wasn't enough people to go every place and do all I wanted to do.....
