 226. Liar, Liar
She was angry
With her lover
For lying to her.

But to lie to
Another is to
First
Lie to ourselves.

Those without
The sin of lying
To themselves
Cast the first
Stone.

Who says
The world
Shouldn't lie
Is only arguing
With reality.

The lie of
Omission
Is no better.

Is it a lie
If the Oracle
Tells you
What you
Needed to hear
So you could
Embrace who
You really
Are?
So that you could
Find and face
The truth
Within you?

When your little
Girl hands you
A scribble
And say
That it is
Beautiful,
What about
When it is
Both a truth
On one hand
And a lie on
The other?

Lies get tangled
In the truth
And who is
The authority
On such things
When we each
Have our
Own truths?

Or are there
No truths
Only the stories
We tell ourselves
About a past
None of us
Can clearly
Objectively
Remember?

There is your story
There is my story
There is our story
And the truth
Is out there
Where only
After we have
Passed on
From this
World,
That we may
Ever understand
The perspective
From which
The truth
That the Divine
Knows
May ever possibly
Understood.

In the meantime
We are all
Lying to ourselves
Telling our stories
Becoming attached
To them
As if there were
No other truth,
Than the stories
We tell…

Unless we can have
Compassion
That all we meet
Believe such
Stories
As fact,
Then we can never
Hope to break
The chain of
Lies.
