I remember the day
The twin towers fell
Down in a blaze
Not of glory
But of terror.
I remember seeing
The news of
Islamic children
In other parts
Of the world
Dancing and
Cheering in the
Streets,
At the symbol
Of our international
Power falling.
Yesterday
We killed the man
We blamed
For that day,
Those lives.
I can imagine
Islamic children
A world away
Looking at us
Seeing us rejoice
In the death
Of this man
And that there is
No mention
Of the innocents
We slaughtered
Through the bombings
To get to him.
They are watching
Our sadistic glee.
When they personally
Know of people
They loved and
Cared about
Who were considered
Collateral damage.
We've not said
We were sorry,
Nor paid their families
The respect they
Are due…
For those killed
To kill the one
Man.
I find no joy
In his death.
I find overwhelming
Sadness
In all that had
To die
To kill him.
What will those
Children remember
About us
When they become
Men and women?
Gratitude?
Love?
Hope?
Or have we
Planted the seeds
Of future actions
Against the monsters
We became
To kill a killer?
We have forgotten
But I remember
The monies Bush
Paid to the Bin Laden
Family.
We have forgotten
But I remember
Those children
Dancing in the street
Over our fallen
Towers,
They are young
Men and women
Now 10 years later.
We are fools to
Think we did no
Wrong or harm
To any of their people
In the War
On terror,
And to think
That we are
The only ones
Who have just cause
For retribution
Is folly…
I remember that
Dr. King said
That hate cannot
Wipe out hate,
Only love
Could do that.
Yes it may be
A bit idealistic.
Yes he is dead.
But he isn't
Forgotten,
Because I remember.
But when we
Close schools
And fire teachers
So we can fire
Missiles…
We are firing
The wrong things.
When our values
Are on the destruction
Of others
Rather than building
Up our future generations
Then I remember
What our future
Holds.
I remember
It is my job
To remind us
Of such simple
Things.
