 Liberty Call

These words echo from my distant past;
Excitement surges, discovery awaits.
The mooring lines have been heaved;
I just finished tying on the rat guards.
Secure in another harbor, waiting now;
Liberty call… liberty call… liberty call.

Exotic ports or some stateside rendezvous;
Anchored or moored, ready to disembark.
Another forty days in the South China Sea;
The gun line has spent our cargo of bombs.
Returning to reload and replenish our supplies;
Liberty call… liberty call… liberty call.

Subic Bay is our port once again on Westpac;
Into Olongapo to have a drink, maybe a dance.
Walking with my sea legs, swaying to and fro;
Another memory is about to be created.
A sailor's smile is from ear to ear when he hears;
Liberty call… liberty call… liberty call.
