 ramblings and things

smallstepsmadpotepotriemantheartfulcodgerscogspeaksvolumes
green affairs

in those mad old bad old days
before the world went green
before recycling bins and bags
were ever ever seen

veg were bought by weight
just protected by their skins
no plastic sheets and little trays
to be just discarded in the bins

washing hung out on a line
on wet days around the fire
long long before the spread
of the electric tumble drier

the TV if it was there at all
stood quietly out of the way
only broadcasting for
just a few hours every day

children walked or byked to school
if it wasn't thought to be too far
or travelled there by omnibus
not by the petrol guzzling car

children laughed and talked
outside in the clean fresh air
not being glued for hours on end
playing games from an easy chair

life was a little quieter
easy to be on your own
before the days of the PC
or the dreaded mobile phone

the world was so much slower then
weekends much of it just stopped
no necessity found for those seven
day opening supermarkets and shops

there was a time for relaxing
for families to gather
to spend a little quality time
just being there together

but that was in those bad old days
before the world went green
and long before recycling bins
and bags were ever ever seen
