The Unlikely Hero

The drunkard stumbled clumsily across the street
Clothes unkempt and lots of mud in the cracks of his feet
Now an then there will be the sound of a screeching noise
As the vehicles brake, as colliding with him, they want to avoid.

He was trying to make his way to the playground to rest
There would be a a tree, under its shade would be the best
Even though there will be noise made by the children at play
But who can pick and choose, when you have no where to stay.

He know that even this rest, may not be too long
Because the children there  some of them were among
Some of the people who would taunt him, in this state
Following the adult their habits willing to imitate.

In his mind the reflected on those much brighter days
When his life was good, he had achieved much in many ways
But his part er in big living and spending, the finances squander
Now the only one he has not is the bottle, this is his lever.

But one thing that always make him feel such happiness within
Were in the early morning, when he takes time to dive and swim
As he travel the water doing as many styles a he wish
Even the strongest currents, his swimming could resist.

A bit happier now, it was time to rest and close his eyes
But no this was interrupted by some shrieking and frantic cries.
It was noticeable, that a mother and her children were wailing
Because her little daughter was there and is now missing.

Now playing stopped abruptly, so the search began immediately
This led to the seaside, there she was sitting frightened on a rock in the sea
Perhaps in her curiosity, wandered of by the seaside
Went into the water, and was carried off by the tide.

One could see the water now beating against the rock
Each wave inching higher, as into the water she they want to knock
This sight made the men froze, none of them spoke
There was splash and someone was swimming to the rock with a careful strokes.

It was a tough swim against a very difficult tide
As soon as she was taken off, a wave came from the other side
It covered the rock, and in the swell it had disappeared
On the shore this now caused a great silence, which was replaced by fear.

He swam away as the water was eddy around, in such a manner
Like there intention was to suck them under the water
His anticipation and that knowledge, he countered skillfully
He know she was scared so had to quickly get her to  safety.

Summing up his energy, he made it to the cliff rock
He rested her there, then she clambered to the top
Rushing to and into the warm embrace of her happy family
That great happiness was such a wonderful sight to see,

Then he too climbed up swinging he large feet over
They all rush up to see who was the brave hero
Then when there was recognition, they were all struck by surprise
Knowing  the person they disparage, had forgiveness in his eyes.
