THE SUMMER OF OUR YOUTH

THE SUMMER OF OUR YOUTH

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Reminiscence of a Summer Day
We sat on the banks of the mighty Mississippi River
We three in the summer of our youth
Letting our minds guide us into unbelievable quests
We had spent most of the morning in the tall
willows that grow along the banks of the river
looking for the nest of the wild turkeys who lived there
Now our attention turned to other adventures
What if a unicorn lived in the woods
We talked of what we would do if we caught one
How would we get him home without a bridle
We would show it off at a circus and become very famous
We could even teach it tricks, to stand on his hind legs
or to dance,  like the trained horses in the movies did
Our young minds was going wild with all kinds of imaginations
Off in the distance we heard what sounded like thunder
Looking at the sky it was clear except for a beautiful rainbow in the east
Over the rainbow was the most exciting thing I ever saw
Unicorns in a race across the sky
brilliant white with their mane and tails wild in the breeze
Over the top of us they flew
Looking down at us they gave a whinny
They flew so low we could see the blue of their eyes
and the pink of their tongues
It was unbelievable
Then we knew unicorns had to be free
We sat on the banks of the mighty Mississippi River
We three in the summer of our youth
and in our minds conquering unbelievable quests
