NO one likes
To think
Of themselves
As one of
Them.
We'd like
To think
We all have
Hope…
Not that
We are the
Killers of such things,
With a few
Exceptions.
“I'm just being,
realistic.”
“I'm just trying
to help you
avoid problems.”
“It's BECAUSE
I love you,
I'm telling you
This.”
If these words
Have fallen
From your lips
You maybe
A naysayer.
Well in all likely-hood
You are
A naysayer.
Dream killer
Inner-child slayer.
Truth is
At some point
We have all
Been one,
Either the dreams
Of our loved ones
Or our
Own.
The killer
Of kindness
And the child
Victim,
Live inside us
All.
Why do we
Keep having
This vicious cycle
If interior
Brutalization?
Why if it
Feels so
Terrible
Would we
Do it
To others?
“To protect
our babies.”
They whisper
In hisses
Through the
Teeth of bitterness
And past pain
Unresolved.
“I want to
save you
from yourself.”
Now while
This is true
Before someone
Shoots up drugs,
Again,
I am not talking
About that,
But those
Dreams…
About being an
Artist,
And the first words
Outta their mouths
Are,
“You don't want
to be a starving
artist for the rest
of your life,
Do you?”
“Do you know
what the odds
are?”
Then when
All reason
Leaves them,
They utter the worst
Curse,
A Naysayer
Can utter…
With bitter distain,
“Why don't you
Just
Grow-up.”
To some the words
Are killers.
To others they
Spurn the anger
To go on
And prove them
Wrong.
Success
Is said,
To be the best
Revenge.
Anger turned
Inward
Is the death
Of dreams.
Anger turned
Outward
Turns into
Action.
Don't give up.
Don't give in.
For even if you
Die in the attempt
To pursue
Your dreams
Then at least
You Lived
Without the regret
The Naysayers
Exist with
Everyday…
They Exist.
You Live.
You Inspire.
They survive.
Everyday
Is a struggle
Internally
Between
Them and you
And it all
Plays out
Inside
Us.
