 Frayed Edges

Hour after hour of mind numbing night shift;
Without a challenge, my mind slips into oblivion.
Overtime cascading into the daylight hours;
My bleary eyes search for the motivation to continue.
I need rest and relaxation; I need recovery within;
Seeking out my purpose, my gift to this world.

Is it to work until that zombie state overtakes me;
To grasp the almighty dollar by their throat?
I am blessed with a good paying job, yes I am;
But is there more to this life than work and sleep?
Withdrawing, metering out the flow of energy;
Freedom lost; I need to heal my frayed edges.

My yoga mat becomes my lifeline anchoring me
Safely in the harbor of strength, love, and peace.
Our cat sits at my feet as I move from pose to pose;
Sensing her loneliness, her need for companionship.
I sit in the cobbler pose as Boo purrs and sits near;
My soul reaches out along with my hand to stroke her.

Communion between species, gentle urging to peace;
Scratching her neck as she rolls onto her back.
Sweet is the moment, as my agenda is overridden;
I sit sharing the moment with Boo, now feeling recharged.
Coming from somewhere that I did not perceive;
This old cat brings me repair of my frayed edges.

My thoughts never included the chance of this possibility;
Yet my soul was open to the universal reach of spirit.
Sitting for an uncounted slice of my life with Boo;
This wise cat teaches me of priorities, of patience.
Stroking her white fur, listening to the loud purring;
Feeling the unification, the completeness, the welding.

My soul soars with the eagles as I stand up afterward;
That manic striving upward rests as find stillness.
The push no longer seems so important to me now;
No longer will that drive for success run me ragged.
I smile as I walk back up stairs from my basement gym;
Boo looks at me, knowing I no longer have frayed edges.
