Advice to Wives and HusbandsShow respect to one another, By submitting to each other; The same as being under Christ, His authority is sufficed. A wife submits to her husband, His requests are not to be shunned; Like a bird at the top will perch, As Christ is the head of the church. The husband is head of his wife, And who will sacrifice his life; Just as Christ did upon the cross, The head must then render the loss. For it is love through devotion, A duty that placed in motion; With obligation as the head, That the husband must take instead. Just as husbands must love their wives, They are one rather than two lives; And so he must never neglect, Nor requests should never reject. Both husbands and wives have their thrown, But love each other as their own; Without a wrinkled fault or stain, And never trying to complain. He leaves his parents for a wife, With cleaving into a new life; Being united then as one, Just as the Father and the Son. Copyright © 2011 Richard Newton Sherrer Vote for this poem
