The soft black lace flowed gently along the breeze
Everyone noticed
But not her
She quivered in the depth of despondency and
The cream magnolia she clutched tightly
Moistened to her tearful outpouring.
Two decades and more had seen an intangible bond
She the butterfly of heart
Ever capable ever smiling
Full of shine
He the shoulder of steel
Which she had depended upon.
Their love had transcended all that life had thrown
Each day blossoming to a new adventure
Richness grew from their knowledge
Tenderness had imparted a wealth of personal wisdom
They trod the same step inhaled the same sweet wind
A fire raged when they touched each others fingers.
Years had not dimmed the lightning which shrouded them and
Kept their love stronger with each following day
They had each other and
Anyone else was superfluous to their fulfilment
Desire shone upon their eyes in
A gaze of adoring affection.
And now she stands alongside him
Yet she is lost
Sombre and silence raining upon her
She tosses the scented blossom gently
And it is snared by the cradle of wicker
Resting in the earthy dirt below her shoe.
Dreaming that no one else is present
She laughs out loud and begins to hum a tune
A melody that would see him grab her lovingly
And twirl her round in a giddy caper
She squealing loudly
He dismissing her appeal to let her go.
She stops abruptly
Realising that time has ruptured their union
A separate path lies before her
A path unknown and
A path which she would relinquish
For the sake of one more dance.
