 My Recent Mishap and Lessons
It was on Friday, the 13th of May
Not by superstition in any way
When I left home the Bible study
My feet slipped out from under me

Since I had been to that house before
Hearing the words going out the door
Be sure to watch out for that last step
I tried to be cautious, but had a mishap

I could blame dim light or no hand rail
But the fact is that accidents still prevail
Holding onto the ledge helped when I fell
I slid down landing on my rear end overall

I was sore and stiff throughout the night
Better by morning, not the end to my plight
Tuesday, left pelvis and lower back pain started
Thursday, difficult walking, to the doctor I darted

I phoned the lady at whose house I had earlier fell
Explained my symptoms asking for a ride as well
The doctor took x-rays, praise God nothing broken
Bruised, tight muscles, use heat and ice as instructed

A week later, original pain had greatly subsided
Grateful to God for the healing He has provided
On the 25th I had sharp pain as I got ready for bed
Now my left leg above the knee, when will it end

The next day, back to the doctor second time around
To rule out any blood clots, she set up an ultrasound
Praise God, results were negative, continue heat and ice
I am getting better, with God's healing and doctor's advice

Through it all, God has reminded me of His loving care
Even in my pain and questions why, He is always there
Like my job loss, I don't need to understand the reason
He will continue to restore me to health in His season

God has also helped me see I should wait to file disability
Reminding me that He is my source of financial stability
Internet research said unemployment benefits I could lose
If the State discovered disability claim was the path I chose

A person has to be able to work to receive unemployment
Filing disability would be the opposite of that requirement
In reviewing my last earnings report from Social Security
I could receive less than I am now if I filed for disability

After I have recovered more from this latest injury
I am going to apply with some additional agencies
Even if it is for short or long-term temp positions
Surely there is work available with my qualifications

It may not be in my exact field of work experience
I have applied for some entry-level jobs with variance
Willing to take a pay cut in order to receive training
Especially in accounting software that I am lacking
