MATEO
His birth was timed to bring a smile
Where held in arms in mine awhile
That lost loved one but gained a son
Newborn grandson, my only one
Before my eyes and sound asleep
A promised whispered all mine to keep
In ears precious I leaned and spoke
I'm here Mateo as he awoke
Though just born 4 days before
I would arrive upon hearts door
He knocked where loss had made its home
Breathing away what felt alone
The little boy in me like him
Whose eyes would fill with tears within
Would fight to hold back tears of joy
This grandparent more little boy
His scent brought comfort to my soul
His peace of mind, mine would take hold
Bringing full circle my need to be
A part of life, a part of me
Though time mine short I held him till
I had to leave, though bitter pill
I took with me what GOD allowed
A piece of him, this grandpa proud
