 273. Down By The River
(inspired from Art from Ashes at “the Spot”)

The trees overhung
Cool
Intermittent
With warm sunbeams
I set down that rock
And all that was
Attached to it
To me
To memories
To ideas
That felt horrible
To carry around
Like lead weights…
“What are you
carrying in there?
Rocks?”

Yes as a matter of fact.
I set it down
In the water
Rushing over
Its surface
Like what
Must have
Happened
A long time ago…

The sun felt brighter
The beams
Larger…
I could hear
For the first time
The sound of the
River
The water
And I never knew
That I was deaf before
Because all those
Thoughts
Had crowded
My head
That mother nature
Had been blocked
Out of my ears…
Now I could see
The birds…
& life
And you.
