*Ruby Red*
He and I sit together at the table
He staring at me
I staring back at him
The beat of the forks hit our plates as we eat
An uninvited guess he was
Insolent soul, but has he ever been kind?
His appearance was unexpected
But when is it ever?
His napkin wipes his lips
And his knife and fork cross to show that he is done
Me trying to buy time
I offer him a drink
But he is never parched
So I look at him
Understanding what it is to be done now
I take his Cold hand
And put on my ruby red hat
I want to look good for when I depart.
