DUPLICITY
Love has betrayed me once again…
standing at a crossroads
with two clear directions at hand,
yet either choice I make
will leave me in a seclusion that
no one should have to face…
…to leave the thought of love
indeterminately behind
or fall into a deep, dark pit
from which one never returns
I choose the first path
and so my peace has been stolen
for love is all that has ever mattered in life
When one steals a heart
but then craves material comforts in lieu of love
something inside his soul dies…
a slave, a courtesan, a creature
without a soul is what a man then becomes
missing the true joys, losing that spark,
identity erased, creativity quelled
I pity the woman without love
for she is me, though not by my own hand -
instead, it has been ransomed…
she can give you coveted things
and provide just like a mother, yet she
cannot make you feel, nor give you her sentiment
so store your treasures here on Earth
let the moths devour your conscience
unlike you, my dignity will remain
freedom being preferable to selfish indulgence…
…and I will know love again one day
