 Heading East

Streetcars are clanging and the power lines hum
There are two thugs tormenting an alleyway bum
Sights and sounds assault both my ears and eyes
Smog rises to battle the blue of the skies....

Bright lights, big city, traffic stalled on a street
Scowls on frantic faces of all the people I meet
There must be a pathway leading away from this place
Where life's metronome beats to a less frenetic pace....

Trailway to Florida, Greyhound to all points west
Flip a coin to decide which way will be best
Only two dollars left after my ticket is bought
People's faces tell stories of life's lessons taught....

Tires hum along the highway as scenery goes by
Florida sounds inviting, enticing, I'll give it a try
Gears clash, then mesh as my long journey begins
Maybe I'll learn to see life thru a rose colored lens....

On and on we go through the hours of the night
At least I am heading toward a more pleasing sight
I believe I'll enjoy the beaches and ocean sound
And I hear bikini clad women abound and astound...

I should place a call in a telephone booth
To Ponce de Leon and the Fountain Of Youth
Reserve for me a place in the noonday shade
With a tall cold glass of Florida lemonade...
