Watching The Rain

As I sat there in my house, just watching the rain
My mind flashed back to those memories it contained
This brought some smiles, also some warmth, making me appreciate
Those times, as they taught me a lesson, that nothing can negate.

Going back to those days, when the rain was falling
Through the holes in the roof the water was dripping
Looking at the buckets any to catch, places on the floor
Catching the water, and sometimes there was an overflow.

As my other siblings and I, just huddles in a particular spot
Perhaps the only dry area, there leaking has not got
One could see the water surround the humble house
Then my father, go out to cut a trench, of course getting douse.

The animals too very exposed, also took great pains
To turn their backs, to take the brunt of the rains
Standing covering their offspring, giving that protection
So as to keep them dry, through the rain's duration.

Those showers too, will also drench and release
From their hiding places, creatures like centipedes
Very had to pick up the weak beam of the lamp's light
They and the dripping water could be a bad combination that night.

Those times after the shower, how the neighbor's will joke
And   the saying would all around much laughter evoke
My wife and I well we spent the rainy night dancing
To the music made by those tin pans, into which the water was dripping.

Those days there was so much love and a spirit of such unity
People quite willing to help out, like a sense of humanity and duty
Not like today, as people seem to have been diverted
As jealousy, greed in their mind seems to have been planted.
