Retirement
As human beings in our lives there is such great enjoyment
Especially when it is blessed with lots of accomplishments
From that moment we take that initial step
We surmount challenges to achieve what we get.
Through life there is that seemingly insatiable yearning
Striding vigorously to explore all avenues of learning
Walking those corridors of higher institutions of learning
Graduating and then pursuing a very good profession.
Years of hard work brought success and a good reputation
Indeed much respect also attracting the right attention
Alas! Time moved on at such a great velocity
Now retirement is also approaching quite rapidly.
On that occasion, they you sit to all appearing so happy
Acknowledging those tributes, but you are there quite distantly
As amid all that, the mind is torn and in a bit of torment
You had never made any preparation for the retirement.
This may be the one transition that would be a bit difficult
But why spend that time sitting idly by and sulk
This will be an opportune time to pause and see that natural beauty
That may have eluded your attention, during those years of being busy.
Now there is more time to spend with and appreciated self
Don't feel useless and go and get dust on that some retirement shelf
Remember in your time, you were a mentor and a teacher
So why would you let mind's ship to the mooring be tether.
So even though there is no more active duty
There are lots around to keep the faculties busy
So why to someone not extends that experienced hand
This will give retirement the joy it can command.
