 Flexibility at What Cost
Read my write from Friday, plans changed
I now reflect on new thoughts contained
Listed as Closed Door and Job Declined
Now as Job Interview Issues note defined

This morning another lady at agency called
With an interview at 1:00 today scheduled
Other lady was gone today so I filled her in
I sent an email to cancel since we spoke then

The new lady took time to answer my questions
Satisfying major concerns by added explanations
Saying lady at company with hours was flexible
Early time off due to conflict would be acceptable

Since it was temp to hire, I agreed to give it a trial
I would at least make an effort, even if later I fail
No instructions were given for when I first arrived
The plant was huge and I didn't know where to drive

Finally I saw a sign that read Job Applicant Parking
So I parked and walked to security booth inquiring
Giving my name with ID and the person I was to see
He called her on the phone and then tried to direct me

First a little badge was given to wear around my neck
Then he pointed down the road with parking in back
I went too far so I drove back there and asked again
This time got it right and she was waiting as I went in

She explained the company is a beef processing plant
Asking if animal slaughter there bothered me like that
I said no and that I took a bus trip and saw a cattle farm
It gave me insight in the whole production but not harm

Then she started talking about why the hours are strange
Each day is based on the production schedule arranged
My job would consist of reports with stages along the way
Everything had to be completed by the end of the same day

Leaving early was okay, but at what price is flexibility defined
If I was not done, come back to finish that night to be on time
Then production adjusts accordingly next day to meet quotas
Unknown Saturday hours required not just at end of the quarter

Saturday hours during busy season usually known by Thursday
Weekday hours would always vary with production each day
Life is too short to put up with strict rules and rigid demands
Most conflicts for me are faith related and I chose to take a stand

She could tell I was undecided about the hours and had reason to be
One conflict is August 12-13, Women of Faith, very important to me
Friday night concludes at 10:00 PM, which is then time to go to bed
I will not risk missing either day, due to work load getting done instead

The other conflict this Fall would be Bible study every other Friday
I would never know until end of day if I could go that night anyway
So the actual interview did not even take place but God closed the door
I chose my faith over job hour conflicts, which eternally matters more
