Summers Seared
Upon souls fragile cocoons bear the heat of this day
Relentless the fires of summer baste them
Tolerance is the mindset of choice
Shades of relief sought and found indoors
Even air conditioning has problems maintaining inner sanctuaries
In the city children play in showers of the concrete jungle
Hydrants, urban waterfalls to splash in
The elderly peer from behind screened windows
Youth once theirs, mobile in thought, aged in state
It is here where days of old bring a smile to wrinkled brows and tired eyes
As summer sears reasons to remember their better days
Sipping iced tea or lemonade, time ticking away what seemed like yesterday
