 Of Battlegrounds
In battles fought the wounded lay
Life slipping fast breath last now plays
The moment in arms of one
Who rode shotgun the best bar none

Yet as morning gave way to noon
This day would spell a life too soon

Cut down by fire from a gun
A bullet spent in tragic cost

A Knight who wore his shield with pride
Gave chase to bring evil that hides
Behind the door of darkness bared
Where life was lost once making pair

Partner married to wife with kids
Where prayers prayed asked GOD forbid
The tour this night will bring them harm
The phone ringing breaks still the calm

The voice urges to come to where
The last place thought as a blank stare
Upon face where hand drops phone
The threat to life becomes stone cold

Heroes are not found in comic books
Nor in movies but if we looked
We'd find them on the streets where war
Draws fate of loss and one life more

If just this once a trigger failed
The last bullet would leave no trail
Of life given serving a cause
This moment now in prayer pause

Pray for those who give their life
In war and streets that shed no light
On peace, good will and love this day
That those spared come home today

A tribute to Police officers and soldiers who serve mankind, in His name
