HOW TO LET A LOVER GO
How can a heart remain entangled;
wrapped up in one who has let you go?
Every place you visit, their ghost remains
every nuance in conversation, they seem to speak!
How does one detach the soul, the spirit,
when it's as if they've become a part of your whole?
Every night alone, you feel them there
every daily activity, their footsteps can be heard!
How will you ever release their memory;
the threads of a shared life bearing witness each day!
Every subtle glance, every knowing smile,
every private thought imprinted upon your very cells!
How can I bear to ever forget you;
when the dreams of forever were always in your arms?
Every kiss was the first, the breath of two souls
were joined and we never wanted to come up for air!
How to let go? How to move on? How to keep living?
I ask, but the walls never answer…they saw what we had too.
And so we mourn, because it's the only thing we know how to do…
