THIS IS ME
This is who I was
before you came.
Never did I try to hide
the history of my days from you,
holding nothing back…
but oh, what a mistake that was.
You've used it against me,
made me feel dirty and wrong
for being someone others befriend
long after romance went astray…
but this is me.
This is who I was
before you came.
Never did you tell me that
I was hanging myself with my honesty,
but then again…
I didn't know you wouldn't understand.
You accuse me,
trying to cause me guilt or shame
for being a loyal woman…
but this is me.
This is who I was
before you came.
I could have lied.
I could have pretended.
I could be fickle.
But this is me…
and this is who I will always be.
Honest and open.
Loving and loyal.
Guess you only want
me to be that for you.
But you see, this is me
and those who know me,
like me this way.
Including me.
So tell me, now that it's over…
shall I no longer be friends
with you?
Or shall I still be me?
