Hungry Voices are Singing ( Added Verses )

Poverty comes easy as does the pangs of hunger pains,
Crops are a distant memory, gone with the life giving rains,
The shadow of drought casts a curse upon this poor land,
The fate of future generations held in the Devil's hand,

The child born into hunger seeks comfort and a feed,,
Its own siblings its rivals in a fight for a basic need,
I can never seem to rid myself, no matter how hard I try.
The sight of a starving child, the sound of its anguished cry,

A hungry voice is singing, a lament for you to hear,
There is no saving music as death grows ever near,
A nation that's in famine unable to feed their young,
Asks the world for life in the words of the dying sung,

A world of empty promises and empty pockets too,
To allow such pitiful suffering, sadly is nothing new,
Lets share our resources, let there be enough to go around,
Lets teach the world to feed itself, let compassion soon be found

                        Addit

Another country now forsakes its own, too paranoid to care,
Obstructing outsiders offer, with supplies of food to share,
Holding on their power as their people simply starve and die,
Denying to the world whats obvious, I don't understand why,

Televised images of a dying child, listless in a mother's arm,
Unable to feed the innocent waifs, or keep them from mortal harm,
That man can do this to fellow man, and use children as their pawn,
Those who should have had a future, are now denied another dawn,

I originally penned this poem with sad feelings two years ago,
I'm even more disappointed now, as starvation continues to grow,
I despair that in this modern age, we still witness such tragedy,
If I can influence anyone then I believe we can beat our apathy,

I welcome others poets opinions why it happens in this day and age,
If only we could start anew as if reading from a fresh new page,
I may be a dreamer,a blessed privelege in this country that is free,
Waiting for the day to come when hunger becomes a page in history.
