Crumbs scattered from here to there
Across a table whence they left
Out gathering tinder
Or playing hide and seek
In a cutting behind the hut.
Tea stains on chequered cloth
And blue willow plates left
While vivid lime marmalade
Sets into position
And knives regiment themselves
By side.
Idle fingers made busy
Spoons to polish
Errands to chase
And the afternoon creeps upon us.
