 316. The Measure of Time
I can remember
Never knowing
When that elusive
Day was…
They called it
April fools day.

But I can remember
Saying that I was
Three and
One quarter
Years old.

And when it
Was a whole
Half year later
It was a BIG
Deal!

Counting first
In quarters
Then halves
Then years…
16
18
21…

I was told
I'd never make it
That far.

So everyday past
21
Is a bonus day…

Some people
Talk about
Years like
They've lost them
Not gained them…

In one year
I have counted
Even numbered
The days
And made
A year pass
In the most
Extraordinary way
A poem
A day…

Some days are full
Some are a trickle
Some passed and
Accumulated at
The end…
But everyone
Counted,
Appreciated,
And noticed.

I've no desire
To kill time
Which is as
Precious
As the day
I was born…
We just forget
To notice.

Have you?
What is the measure
Of your time?
