Now I lay me down to sleep
I try so hard my soul to keep

A glorious dream?
No! In its place
I see the pain in your frightened face!

My angel, you tried so hard to smile
You begged, please stay with me for a while.

I lay down beside you and held your hand
Your skeletal fingers so cold and damp
A prisoner in a death camp.
I'm on death row, you said
Barely stirring in that dismal bed.

Sweetheart, you said, you saved my life today
Please never never go away.
What could I say? What could I do?
I fell asleep holding on to you.

The next day I flew home
No one by my side
And two months later
They told me you died.
