 342. Deception
(Word from Monica D.)

One needn't
Go any further
Than the corners
Of their own
Mind to
Find
It.

To hide
In plain sight
What the heart
Has no
Stomach to see
Is the easiest
To believe.

That she
Is ugly
Is a lie
But a one
He counts on
To shower
Her in gifts
To hide
The affair.

The lies
We tell ourselves
Allow others
To deceive us.

Flattery works
Because of
The lack in
Our own hearts
At our own
Value.

There is
No deceit
In his way
He is shallow
But the honey
Lies that drips
From his lips
Keeps your eyes
Shut…
And then he knows
He has you
Can pay
Less
Attention…
So long as
He gives you
Just enough
To keep you…
You know
The dance…
Of deceit.

How often
My love
Will you
Keep being
With the same
Man
Until you
Fill your
Own heart
With self-love
And not
Succumb
To the
Charms
Of the shallows…

Quit being
A distraction…
Be your own
Main attraction,
Then you
Will no longer
Have to deceive
Yourself.
