Passing

Funeral are for the living
Not for the sake of the dead
Who, depending on beliefs,
Have gone for ever
Or just gone on ahead.

If it's the first maybe my ashes
Will be scattered afar
So that in time they may return
In the rebirth of a star.
If there is a life after,
Something we will never know
Until comes the day
When it is time to go,
Perhaps a disembodied freedom
A whole universe to explore
To wander endlessly though space
Discovering more and more;
Galaxies tumbling,
Stars grow and fall,
While this immortal witness
Freely observes all,
Waiting
Until the next big bang when
All is re-absorbed
And so the process begins again.

No a funeral is for the living
Not for the sake of the dead
Who, depending on beliefs
Have gone for ever
Or just gone on ahead.
