 THE TRAVELING LIFELONG BUSH POET

WE WERE ALL HERO'S BACK THEN

After we had eaten our tea or dinner as it's called
We'd bath real fast with the bath old chip heater then
And in our gowns we would settle then down in front
Of that old wireless or later called radio once ag'en

Photobucket

There would be on our favorite serials to come on
And of course there was always Inspector West
And superman as well as batman then as well
Not a word spoken as to hear it all at our best

We would ask if we could turn out the lights
So we could hear way better even more so still
As with lights out we could then imagine better
And our imagination ran so wild then at will

We all gave our self the names of our hero's
And to be like they were how we'd really try
I still remember getting up on the back shed
Felt then if I jumped off oh boy how I'd fly

We would take our hero's off to a living tee
Mum would be in the kitchen cackling like a bird
She thought that we were better than the radio
And that it was the funniest thing she'd ever heard

One second we would be laughing out so very loud
The next we would almost be in shock with horror
but we would remember ever single word and term
As we could use them in a game sometime tomorrow

We all loved Gene Autry's  songs they'd play
And Roy Rogers too in the country back then show
But the serials they were the very best at the time
And listening we would only ever whisper ever low

Two kids with their heads stuck to the cloth then
As the serials were so realistic and some very true
Like the war time one then about the great escape
And the things in that war some then they had to do

The radio static we would of course protest then about
With the whistles and the sounds upon a windy night
But hey after all we kids were all hero's back then
And we had to rescue so many then in the greatest plight

Next day after school right up until tea time was  on
We would play our many hero game and save so many a life
I'm sure the world would be a way worse place today
If we did not then save so many who were in strife

TIME FOR BED was then the worst time of all for us
We were busy riding our steeds or maybe flying high
And if we stopped right then when told to stop
So many would be in trouble and they might all just die

We were all hero's back then in every single way
Tough and bullet proof as well might I just say
If we were not as heroic as were all back then
I'm sure the would would be a far worse place today .

UP UP AND AWAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY ..lol .
