 My today's thoughts

THE JAR

"MEMORY  ONE"  -  "MEMORY TWO"

THE JAR

They kept their memories stored in a jar
placed on a shelf in a closet

Once each month they would put their hand in the
jar and take out one memory each

Sitting at the kitchen  table  they each
opened their yesterdays

"MEMORY  ONE"

Memories of plates on grandma's table
full of goodies from her oven for them to share

The smell of sugar cookies filled the  room like magic in a circle
To share made Grannie's eyes twinkle with joy

Who could have guessed before the night was over
Grannie would pass to another life

At the age of thirteen the death of a love one is hard to understand
Her smile was still missed - the tender touch of her hand longed for

The empty spot left by her was still vivid
Her notes to her grandchild were treasured as gold

"MEMORY TWO"

The sun was dropping into the ocean
way beyond the far horizon

Overhead sea birds flew high making circles of welcome
He was on the submarine heading for Hawaii

When one is was so young and the first time so far from home
it was hard not to be afraid of the coming days

The war had been over for many years but the clean up was their job to do
Life has a way of turning a boy into a man

Even with the debris strewn everywhere
the beauty of the island was unbelievable

Later they took theirs memories and folded them neatly
placed them in the jar and closed the closet door

Some of the memories in the jar were happy
some were sad

Like life they never knew which one they would open
The happy one made the sad ones easier to bear

 Matthew 26:7

There came unto Him a woman
having an alabaster box (Jar) of very precious ointment,
and poured it on His head, as He sat at meat.
