Chewing Gum

I found some chewing gum
outside on the ground,
I put the gum in my mouth
then stopped to look around.

I didn't want anybody to see
the gum that I had found,
I tried to blow a bubble
and make a popping sound.

I want to thank the person
that left the gum right there,
it made me feel so happy
that I decided I would share.

I looked around for a friend
while chewing on my find,
I stretched the gum apart
with hopes of being kind.

I finally found a friend
busy reading his comic book,
I offered him my gum
but at first he wouldn't look.

When he finished reading
he then became aware,
he said, "That's just gross!"
and he threw it with a glare.

At first my feelings were hurt
cause he wouldn't chew my gum,
I thought, "I'm not gross!"
when I tried to offer some.

I turned around to walk away
and my foot came up sticky,
the gum stretched and stuck
and I knew this piece was tricky.

I tried to pull it off my shoe
and I could tell it was strawberry,
the smell tickled my nose
like scratch and sniff stationary.

My mouth began to water
from the smell of my shoe,
I bent over with mouth open
and reached that I might chew.

The flavor made me smile
and my friend hurried away,
I didn't know the reason why
nobody wanted to play.

There was no pack of gum
bought at the candy store,
I noticed it on the sidewalk
and I wished I could find more.
