 Suburban Presence

The rhythmic footfalls in my neighborhood;
Walking on a beautiful October afternoon.
No stop watch for pace, this is not a race;
Looking to the trees, the birds, the squirrels
To find my quiet place in suburban presence.

The neighborhood dogs acknowledge me;
Hearing the acorns falling in a gentle breeze.
Listening internally, stillness brings insight;
The trees whisper softly their secret of peace
Standing gracefully in suburban presence.

Resist not reality; surrender, bend, balance;
Grow in union with what is, not what I wish.
Listening to the trees speak, I hear within;
Not just with my ears, but with the essence
Of my soul as I hike in suburban presence.

Sweetness embraces, as I feel nature's love;
Refreshed as the sun warms my heart.
Night shifts create a creature of the night;
But now I'm in the moment, full of wisdom
From nature, walking in suburban presence.
