When I was younger some time ago
I sat horse back on mountains high
And wrote many a country song then
So far up and so nearer to the sky
I gave them away to any who would sing
Them the way I had written them back then
My name has not appeared on any as yet
No worries I've loved country since when
Poetry was for myself a way of life always
And always had a pad and pen with me around
As I did in saddle bag or pocket at the time
As I sat somewhere with only natures sound
Poetry is all around us all of the time
As are songs not yet written or even sung
And as I look back on my entire life
The beautiful things back memories have brung
I've always stated poetic licence protected
All in life I've ever written dare I say
Even Byron would not be edited at any time
And he would say so if he was here today
I've seen so many countries in my travels
And took note all along the way its true
Understood with compassion one and all
Reminded myself always I never wore their shoes
And in this day and age I'm so thankful that
Poetry is today still alive and very well
As so many still love the poetic written word
And all originally they still strive to tell
Away up where the wedge tail eagles flew
And where the clouds there simply loved my hat
Where highest breezes softly blew all of the time
And it has not changed a bit I thank God for that.
