Ricky the Rat
Wore a red, red hat
On top of his pointy head
He wore it to school,
And down by the pool,
And he even wore it to bed
One dark, dark night
With his eyes closed tight
Asleep and tossing around,
The red, red hat
Went this way and that,
And suddenly fell to the ground!
In a deep, deep sleep
With his sheets in a heap,
Ricky began to snore
While six soldier ants
Hitched up their pants
And carried his hat out the door.
Now these strong, strong ants
Were taking a chance,
They knew Ricky the Rat could be mean.
But they took that hat
That belonged to the rat
And dyed it a terrible green!
Ricky the Rat
In his red, red hat
Had given the ants a hard time.
He had trashed their nest
Scattered ants east and west,
And had filled their tunnels with slime.
It was war off the bat
For the ants and the rat
And the efforts they made were wholehearted
They spied and they scanned
And each battle they planned
But no one recalled how it started.
For years and years
Through hardship and tears
The rat and the ants battled on
Rat would attack
And the ants would fight back
'Til each of their homes were gone.
Now that red, red hat
Was the pride of the Rat
His symbol, his badge and his flag
When he caused the ants trouble
He'd turn on the double
And tip it in order to brag.
The mad, mad ants
Would march and advance
They scouted, observed and retreated
They would win this war
And settle the score
If only that Hat were defeated.
The green, green hat
Was despised by the Rat
Who refused it on top of his head
He dug and he scurried
'Til the green hat was buried
Then wouldn't come out of his bed.
The glad, glad ants
They'd sing and they'd dance
They built new tunnels and nest
When they came up for air
And no Ricky was there
They felt happily rid of the pest!
It's an old, old story
Of winning and glory
The terrible war was all through.
But they missed that old rat
And the terrible hat
Now the ants had nothing to do.
Ricky was sad
He knew it was bad
To bully and bash tiny ants
He now would be nice
For his hat paid the price
And he hoped he would get a new chance.
His red, red hat
Was gone and that's that!
A difficult price to pay
He sobbed and he sobbed
Since his red hat was robbed
And just couldn't go out to play.
Then Ricky the Rat
Heard a C-R-A-S-H-and a S-P-L-A-T
He feared it might be a CAT!!!
When he peeked through his door
Outside on the floor
Was a beautiful red, red, hat.
Ricky the Rat fainted out-and-out flat
Miracles happen each day!
But to his surprise
When he opened his eyes
Six ants were walking away!
