I saw an old man today
Sitting very much alone-
Away out in a distant park
Looked as if he never had a home-
I imagined his days gone by passing
Through the mind of a man now old-
A mind with endless stories all true
And many days and nights out in the cold-
Looked as if heart break had him give up
Upon his life and love and joy-
And now upon a bench he sits alone
Thinking of good times as a boy-
As if nobody cared where he'd gone to
All those he loved and raised in life-
Children knowing he'd nothing more to give
As could be a once much so loved wife-
Looked as if a soul of heart he'd walked away
Not missed by those he loved just so-
Life can be so cruel and so can some
As if only too well this old man did know-
Sitting alone now upon a park bench
His day almost over now-
Those with short memories and colder hearts
Will in time find their own hell somehow-
And so he sat alone out there
I stopped to say hello-
Gave him a small helping hand
And accepting he then begged me then to go-
Amazing that a man such as he was within
As only one could surely see-
Could end up passed his used by date
That once depended upon him to be-
