Finding The Flood - Poems by Jeremy Joel

March Madness 2005

Asia is wrecked
Orphans in the aftermath
Who can blame Mother Nature's enslaved pet tsunami?
Just another God-forsaken tragedy

March madness is in bloom
Boomers suck the marrow from bones of bad news
Unfair and unbalanced
Patriots and legislation
Consistent inconsistencies of a miscalculated invasion
It's the m.o. of the U.S.
And the world's fiery end
Basketball will thwart the four horsemen's plan

Bill and George are bunk buddies
Red and blue divided
Terri Schiavo's getting hungry
We wish we weren't reminded
The question is summoned…
Is he her heartless husband or most intimate loved one?
Protesters and prophecies
Displays to be ashamed
Meddling in matters for minutes of fame

Columbine is Red Lake
Johnnie Cochran R.I.P.
Who is Robert Blake
But a temporary necessity

The championship is a day away
Who'll wear the ring?
Catholicism is countersuing
Make a cross for the king

Mr. Peterson so stoic
In Purgatory you'll face a more consequential trial

Wife, St. Peter, and a Lazarus child
Michael is a manipulator
Not Peter Pan in pajamas
Divert your attention
With thirty-two brackets

Deadly sins are seven
Souls dark as night
Kids twelve and eleven
Are suns without light

A gunman kills six
Disarmed by the bestseller list
Superman's on steroids
But he's pleading the fifth

Eight years were boring
So a court jester's genocide
Crowded homes are mourning
Paul Hester's suicide

Technicolor is Hell
Let's discuss frivolous things
The hometown girl and how good she can sing
Talk about sports
And a storybook round
Think not the fear of horrific sounds

Working stiffs oblivious
Narrow-mindedness ridiculous
Turning cheeks and crowning celebrities
Existence is a brief crack of light between two dark eternities

Front pages are shocking
Cinderella is easy to read
Opportunities knocking
Who's in the Sweet Sixteen?

Louisville and Illinois
The comeback of Pitino
Tarheels and Spartans
Williams versus Izzo

Clouds gathered for April's first showers
I welcomed them with open arms
Like humanity's natural born innocence
     Sprinkles turned to a storm

Apocalyptic in my living room
That's the last thing I heard
Change the channel if you must
But don't forget what you learned
