So very long ago when I was about seven or so
I was up the back of our small country home
We had a piece of land behind it then in town
As it was at the time I was up there on my own
The man next door he had the same as we did
But he had several jersey cows on it as well
And one had tried to get our greener grass
Getting it's self caught up in barbed wire well
I ran down then to our house as fast as I could
And told my father of this cow being all caught
And my father rang this man next door right away
This man after my father told him just gave a snort
This man next door he was a church preacher as well
He said to my father well God works in strange ways
I shan't be taking that cow out of that today because
It's the Sabbath and the only thing today I do is praise
The cow was ripped and bleeding with deepest wounds
And my father told him in no uncertain terms at all
That he , my father , would remove his wounded cow
And then ring police to report him for his ignorant Gaul
My father took the cow gently out of it's ripping grip
And then he rang the local vet upon our home phone
And the man next door next day filed my father to court
Saying it was his cow , my father should leave his stock alone
The judge in court could not believe that a said godly man
Would leave a cow ripped and bleeding all caught in a fence
And fined that the preacher man one hundred then pounds
And told him to ask his god to give him some common sense.
