Fireworks

A really old poem I wrote for Bonfire Night a couple of years ago.

Beautiful colours fill the sky,
Rockets shoot up so high,
When the world is wide awake,
Watching the colours that Fireworks make.

Some bang like it's world war three,
Scaring animals and people like me,
Makes me want to find a secret place,
Somewhere peaceful like outer space.

Screaming, flashing, booming, blowing,
To a display is where we are going,
To watch the display and eat some treacle toffee,
As our parents drink hot tea and coffee.

I shudder thinking of all the emergencies,
Keeping emergency services on their knees,
Hope people are sensible and act mature,
Fireworks can cause injuries and so much more.

Quick! It's time to cover your ears,
As the sound of a firework grows near,
The colours are amazing; they are so bright,
They're the best thing about Bonfire Night.
