The Passing Time
This can be sometimes like a type of shock
When we take a look at what is that personal clock
What better way to listen to those passing chimes
By the development of our children in out mind's time
It was such joy coming home with that warm bundle
So tiny seemingly just barely over a mere handful
Definitely so helpless, and you the one so helpful
Those innocent smiles, seem to indicate they are so thankful
What a joy unexplainable as they took those steps to walk
And in the house the incessant chatter as its time to talk
Then those concern moments as they is that mad rush into your room
Especially scared of the dark, or the noise of the dogs; howling at the moon.
Then those early days as they are off to school
Having to make rearrangements to meet the scheduled car pool
Those days of rushing around to attend those PTA meetings
Also busy making something to be sold on the days of fund raising
Smiling as you reflect on those occasions that were not right
Getting that phone call that often gave you that fright
Now a teen, defiant challenging authority being in that strong headed zone
Getting sent to the principal's office, for something they did not condone.
So following is the transition to college and later university
Well as a parent you have weathered that storm successfully
Looking to heaven, thanking God for answering that silent prayer
That you both have survived and there is that prospect to a better day.
It's when you sit down and later will realize
It was just like a moment before your eyes
Now in that house only with silent you now get meet and greet
Gone now is the pitter patter of those speedy feet.
