Alone he preps himself these days
Upon his mirror reflection gazed
The man standing somewhat hunched over
Reflects before going makeover
He sees his friends embark for battles
The many fought and souls it rattled
A cry for medic, wound gushing slowly
A prayers chance to One and only
The days of old become again
Where battlefields come more than often
Where times backfire becomes reason
To take cover when draws the season
His uniform saved for occasion
For such a day today will play in
To honor those he came to know
Those still alive and those called home
The Ribbons speak silent courageous
Adorn the breast of war fought pages
Each one will tell of heart break hills
Of blood and souls they ran of spilled
He runs his hands through crown of gray
Closing his eyes, sits for a stay
To bring himself to walk the miles
In uniform not worn awhile
Approaches closet of war now gone
Pulling up pants and jacket on
The one that bares the scars unseen
The many ribbons of war fought scenes
Though slow he is today his stride
Will bring a smile and tearful eye
To every vet that earned their keep
That fought for us, to bring world peace
Now almost done one thing just left
To don his hat of pride he's kept
Now in full sight, soldier reborn
Stands at attention, salute too sworn
Making his way past the front door
Ribbons his glisten by sunlight poured
Upon a man who gave and left
To his country, years heroes wept
His eyes will tear and lips will tremble
Of all he saw and still resembles
A march once his that others walk
If you had time, he too would talk
Of ribbons won and many medals
Until success and peace was settled
Upon countries that were in need
Of one more soldier to intercede
Dedicated to all our Armed Forces who if not for them
this country would have failed to be in existence
as we know it today
GOD bless every Veteran both young and old
To you this write, salute, honor untold
