The Tongue

A gentle answer turns away,
Any tongue from going astray;
Allowing anger its wrath,
And release to cross your path.

Those tongues which are of the wise,
Would never have burning eyes;
They have knowledge and wisdom,
By God from His Kingdom.

Harsh words can stir up anger,
And even become vulgar;
Those words from the mouth of fools,
Are from one who ridicules.

Wise people use expressions,
That make good first impressions;
Lasting after they are gone,
Others not used as a pawn;

But foolish tongues use deceit,
Breaking your spirit complete;
They will go cheat as they lie,
Even make you wish to die.

The foolish tongue thinks of sin,
And you cannot discipline;
As He blocks good with a fence,
So he can only think of nonsense.

But the lips of the wise spread,
All that the Gospel has said;
Having power and insight,
And remaining in the light.
