Serving for them came too and went
The fire fights and cartridge spent
The cold of fear and brave of heart
The battle scenes that tore apart
These are but rations some lived through
Where beach ran red for peace spilled too
Night watch became a lonesome task
Here rifle and soldier mask
Camouflaged to eyes approach
Invisble all tours evoked
The battle front made claim to many
From air and sea and land of Penny
Lanes where bunkers came to be
Their home from home with casualties
The road to peace was long and hard
Leaving little a hand at cards
Before again mortars would pound
Silence of night of several rounds
Here the grunts drew their death card
The crawls to safety in fox hole hard
For Winter's breath howled as the wolf
In passing some, some would call rook
In other fronts Cherries became
The first to go, lost claim to fame
For young at heart too feared reaper
This bullet called, closer, sleeper
Wars are fought by unknown soldiers
Who stood fast shoulder to shoulder
The many fought, where many died
So we could live in peace abide
This Veterans day make haste to greet
Give thanks to those who gave, to keep
This nation proud yet does forget
Of Rations ours, for us that bled
To all who served and still serve, In His name, I salute you...
