Finding The Flood - Poems by Jeremy Joel

I'VE DONE ALL I CAN

I've done all I can to unravel it
Believing this knot could come undone
For some reason she kept searching
So I shook my head and moved on
All that love I felt
Day after day she denied it
Devotion suited for somebody else
Tranquility instead of the riots
Eventually she'll become restless
Tired of her existence
By then desperation could be too late
How many times can a broken heart break?
Ultimatums were unfair for a 23-year old man
But honestly now
I've done all I can
Frustrating beyond belief
The most stubborn girl I know
But also the one who brings me relief
So sad to see you go
Cities afar and oceans wide
Why are you persistent on trying to hide?
Our war is over
Take off your camouflage soldier
How 'bout a Corona Light?
Love is unconditional
You know I'd never hurt you
Limes are romantic when they're utilized right
It was centuries ago when we first kissed
Basking in karaoke bliss
Wearing pieces of flair
No clue of the fall
Different cars
Different lives
In love with it all
A blind man was singing "just for a thrill"
I took such pleasure in giving you chills
Rings of fire were strangely simple
I'll never forget that night
You in a big t-shirt
The aphrodisiac of Connick Jr.
When did out of place fun turn into out of place fights?
What is this prison that used to be paradise?
Diagnosis: Amnesia
That'd be easier sometimes
I'll never forget your birthday
Lying in midnight sand
Ever since Sanibel
I've done all I can
Last week I bargained with an enemy of mine
You hit the door worried
But your daughter was just fine
We sat
It was calm
Cigar did no harm
It only raised questions and laughter
A conversation with Malana after a tilapia dinner
Was an ending to an evening that couldn't have gone better
Wood crates and warning signs always seem to break
This is our car chase
Is this our last take?
On the black surface of a murky lake
Or the jagged edge of a suicide canyon
We'll both be lying dead
Hoping to be resurrected
Pop-overs are evident by winter's end
Who'll knock first?
What pleas will convince?
Poetic refrains
Don't dare expect it
One day I'll drop by unannounced
In a vulnerable hour you'll finally understand
For now I'm exhausted
I've done all I can
