When I really do think back so far at times
Trying to remember some things us kids would do
Way before the telivion or anything like that
We made all our own fun back then it's true
We ourselve's had endless fruit trees up back
But others trees were way more fun then to eat
So often we would wonder down a country lane
Trying to look all innocent and ever so discriet
There would be the biggest heaviest tree all full
Of very juicey peaches standing just over there
And they looked so ripe and about as if to fall
And to us country boys a feast beyond compare
So soon we were laying deep in the highest grass
And wiggling our little bodies like a worm in play
As to get across to that big tree and taste a few
Trying not to be seen by the farmer on the day
He had a very big shot gun there full of pellets
And they told he was a real good and acurate shot
And here we'd be wiggling and jiggling across there
Trying to get a few of these never wanted the lot
We would get to that tree and just would not you know
It was standing there in full view of his house aways
So very fast up that tree like possums we would go
Full of leaves and hard to be seen up there in it
We'd eat ourselves into a very full shape and size
And then to get down and crawl all the way back again
Almost brought tears back then to our very eyes
We had gotten to the boundry fence feeling so full
And as we walked slowly past this farmers gate that day
He shouted would you boys like some fresh peaches
Our cries back to him then was THANKS SIR BUT NO WAY.
