 THE TRAVELING LIFELONG BUSH POET

AND WE THEN CALLED IT PLAY

Photobucket

When one thinks right back on ones childhood days
Most of all then with country living away back when
Some of the things that we kids would at times then do
Would today take a smile off a mothers face back then
We had no fear of dying and endless life within
As we would explore adventure and often even invent
So much then in life we had to enjoy as we learned
On now looking back upon our childhood then as spent
Half the time our very parents they had no idea at all
On where we were or some of the things that we'd then do
Like going from fence post to post across a 6 mile  flood
Just for fun and to see if we then could do it it's true
And swinging a deadly tiger snake around our heads by the tail
As we heard some can in life kill a deadly snake that way
Here we were only seven or eight laughter came as would a gale
And we would then have the hide to call it back then play
Jumping on the backs of unbroken horses from up in a tree
As they'd shelter there within the shade on a hottest day
Landing flat upon our backs like our heros in a then movie
Taking our life in our hands then often all in our own way
Climbing highest trees swimming rapids always something new
When not at school weekends there was always shooting rabbits
Now and then we would collect pines cones for the open fire
It was adventures galore along with some country boys habits
Wondering through the then deepest forest pines that were
Fishing , always fishing and exploring all the time someplace
Horse riding was a loved past time and that old bike of mine
As kids back then in all we did we took up a whole lot of space
Sometimes in winter it was skiing or just playing in the snow
But one thing for sure was back then we were always on the go
Seems with parents then we got in our share of trouble
But that went with then being a country boy you know

But in those days boys were always just that boys back when
And as well then we all had our chores to do first on the day
Before and after school how I remember back then them chores
But loving all of it as we'd then all dare to call it play
So very many things a good memory how it still brings
That kids back then did and just for nothing else but fun
Our poor mothers having a heart attack almost every week
Thanks to some of the things back then we did and done.

( THERES NO WAY ANY CHILDREN TODAY SHOULD
                 TRY ANY OF THIS )
